What is BSc Forensic Science?

Forensic science applies biology, chemistry, physics and digital technology to questions that end up in a courtroom. Who left this fingerprint? What substance is in this sample? Was this document altered? A forensic scientist answers with evidence, not opinion. The course trains you in the laboratory and in crime-scene method: how to collect an item without contamination, how to record who handled it (the chain of custody) and how to write a report that stands up to cross-examination. Careers go beyond police work: private labs, cyber-security firms, banks and insurers also hire forensic graduates.

CAREER OUTLOOK

Build a Rewarding Career in Forensic Science

Demand comes from laboratories, investigation agencies and private firms that need people who can handle and analyse evidence.

where graduates are hired

  • Government forensic laboratories and police crime branches.
  • Private forensic and testing labs, security and law firms.
  • Cyber-security firms, and banks and insurers that investigate fraud.

route to officer posts

  • Scientific officer posts in forensic laboratories are filled through recruitment notices that often ask for a master's degree.
  • For example, a Delhi forensic laboratory notice for Junior Scientific Officer (Documents) asks for a master's in Physics, Chemistry or Forensic Science.
  • A BSc opens assistant and technician roles directly and is the first step towards officer posts through an M.Sc. Read each notice for its own eligibility.
