Paramedical Courses After 12th: List, Eligibility and Which Is Right for You

Passed Class 12 with Biology and want a career in healthcare without spending years on MBBS? Paramedical courses are built for exactly that. They train you to work beside doctors in the lab, the operation theatre, the imaging room, the emergency department and the rehabilitation ward.

This guide lists the paramedical courses you can take after 12th, explains who is eligible, and helps you pick the one that fits your interests. Every duration here follows the UGC notification of 27 August 2026 or the programme’s own page at Apollo Healthcare Academy.

    What Are Paramedical Courses?

Paramedical courses prepare you for technical and clinical roles in healthcare that are not doctors or nurses. CBSE’s career guidance on paramedical sciences describes them as courses that support and supplement the doctor. Today these roles are grouped as allied and healthcare professions and are regulated by the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP). They include medical laboratory science, physiotherapy, nutrition, optometry, occupational therapy, medical radiology and imaging, and trauma and anaesthesia-related technology.

“Paramedical” is the common name for what the NCAHP Act, 2021 calls allied and healthcare professions. The Act’s Schedule lists the professions it covers.

    Paramedical Course List After 12th

The table below is the paramedical courses list for degree programmes you can join after Class 12. Durations are for the full programme, as set in the UGC notification of 27 August 2026. The two programmes marked with an asterisk are not in that notification, so their duration is taken from the Academy’s programme pages.

Course Duration What You Work On
Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS) 4 years Testing blood, tissue and other samples to help diagnose disease
Bachelor of Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology (B.MRIT) 4 years X-ray, CT, MRI and ultrasound imaging

Paramedical Courses at Apollo Healthcare Academy

Apollo Healthcare Academy offers 13 undergraduate paramedical programmes, with clinical training at Apollo Hospitals and at the Academy’s other partner hospitals. The degrees are awarded by the Academy’s partner universities. You can see every programme on the healthcare courses list.

Eligibility for Paramedical Courses After 12th

For the Academy’s programmes, the requirements are:

    • You have passed 10+2 (Class 12) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
    • You have at least 50% marks in aggregate.
    • You are at least 17 years old on 31 December of the year you join.
    • Students from the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics stream can also apply if they take Biology as a supplementary course.

Two programmes differ slightly. B.AOTT accepts Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics, and admission is on Class 12 merit with no entrance test. B.DTT accepts the same subject combinations and admission is on merit and an entrance exam. Check the programme page for the exact rule before you apply. NCAHP also requires a medical fitness certificate endorsed by a Government medical officer.

Is NEET Needed for Paramedical Courses?

It depends on the course and the year, and the rule has been changing. For physiotherapy (B.PT) and occupational therapy (B.OT), NCAHP wrote to UGC on 2 March 2026 that the NEET (UG) requirement is deferred to the academic year 2027-28. For 2026-27, admission to these two courses is on marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Class 12, with at least 50% (40% for SC, ST, OBC-NCL and PwBD candidates) and a pass in English.

NCAHP’s admission criteria of 9 January 2026, issued to UGC for 2026-27, name NEET only for these two courses. The other degrees in the table are admitted on Class 12 merit. NCAHP updates these criteria from time to time, so read the admission notice of the programme you want, and check the Academy’s admissions page for the current process.

How to Choose the Right Paramedical Course

Start with the kind of work you can see yourself doing every day, then look at the course.

You like working with patients directly. Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, dialysis therapy and emergency medical care put you at the bedside. Read our guide on physiotherapy course duration and internship to see what five years looks like.

You prefer lab work and accuracy. Medical laboratory science suits you if you enjoy testing and analysis. See medical laboratory technology courses, types and eligibility.

You like technology and machines. Imaging and nuclear medicine work with scanners and radiation equipment. Read the guide to the radiology course after 12th.

You want to work in the operation theatre or on the heart. Start with the guides to the anaesthesia course, the OT technician course and the cardiac technician course.

You are interested in eyes or food and health. Optometry and dietetics are two of the most focused routes. See the guides to the optometry course after 12th and the dietitian course after 12th.

Then check three practical things: whether you meet the eligibility, how many years you are ready to study, and whether the course includes clinical training in a real hospital.

    Degree Courses and Diploma Courses

This guide covers degree programmes. NCAHP also lists diploma courses of two years and six months in anaesthesia and operation theatre technology, radiotherapy technology and dialysis technology. Where the university permits, diploma holders can join the second year of the matching degree through lateral entry. Diploma rules are changing, so check the latest NCAHP notices before you choose one.

    How to Apply

Pick your shortlist from the table, check the eligibility on each programme page, and read the admission process on the admissions page. Keep your Class 12 marksheet and subject details ready before you apply.

    Is Pharmacy a Paramedical Course?

Not in this guide. Pharmacy and nursing are sometimes counted as paramedical, but they have their own regulators and separate courses. The courses listed here fall under allied and healthcare professions regulated by NCAHP.

Do Paramedical Courses Include Hospital Training?

Yes. These are clinical programmes, so practical training in a hospital is part of the course. The Academy’s programmes include clinical training at Apollo Hospitals and at the Academy’s other partner hospitals.

Who Awards the Degree for Apollo Healthcare Academy Programmes?

The degrees are awarded by the Academy’s partner universities, not by the Academy itself. You can see them on the partner universities page.

How Do I Choose Between Two Paramedical Courses?

Compare the daily work, the duration, your eligibility and the hospital training on offer. Read the programme page and the detailed course guide for each option on your shortlist before you decide.
